Upgrade from Windows 7 to 10. Windows 10 upgrade process

Hello friends! We keep receiving letters on our website asking us to tell us how the upgrade to Windows 10 happens after July 29th and whether it is still free. As you know, the period for free upgrades from previous operating systems: Windows 7, 8.1 to Windows 10 has ended on July 29, 2016. Specifically, readers ask one simple question: “ Is it possible to upgrade your operating system to Windows 10 for free now?»

I have no secrets from my friends - today you can upgrade to Windows 10, but you will have to do it in a slightly unusual way and it’s up to you to decide whether to use this method or not. Let me remind the uninitiated in a nutshell what we are talking about.

On July 29, 2015, the final version of the latest Windows 10 operating system was released, on the same day Microsoft officially announced that everyone was given the opportunity to update their operating systems for free: Windows 7, 8.1 to Windows 10 up to July 29, 2016. A huge army of PC users took advantage of the offer and upgraded their previous OS to tens within a year. But of course, not everyone made it, because many people are far from computer news and Microsoft learned about such an offer only afterJuly 29, 2016, and of course we regretted it a little, because Windows 10 Home costs no less today - 7,000.00 RUR, and the PRO version is even more 9 000,00 . If now I’m talking about you and you are just such a person, then perhaps the following information will be useful to you.

The fact is that Microsoft has announced a lifetime upgrade option to Windows 10 people with disabilities, but when upgrading to Windows 10 the system does not check for special computing devices for people with visual and hearing impairments, that is, anyone can upgrade their Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 on any computer or laptop. The update will be made before the final release of the Anniversary Update Windows 10 build 1607 (OS Build 14393.447).

So, we have a real Packard Bell laptop with Windows 8.1 installed for one language, which has never been updated to Windows 10.

Note: After the update, all our installed programs will remain in place, and nothing will happen to personal files, they will remain safe and sound on all disks.

Windows 10 is loading. The operating system is updated!

"Thank you for updating to the latest version of Windows 10"

The update was made to the final release of the Anniversary Update Windows 10 build 1607 (OS Build 14393.447).

All programs work and our files are safe and sound on all disks.

Owners of personal computers and tablets are wondering: “How to upgrade to Windows 10?” You can perform OS updates based on Windows 7 and Windows 8.1. The developers of the new OS took into account and eliminated the problems and errors of the previous version that reduced computer performance. Therefore, if you doubt whether it makes sense to install updates, we recommend that you do so.

The update can be completed fairly quickly. There are three main ways to do this:

  • by updating Windows;
  • thanks to the utility;
  • via ISO image of Windows 10.

How to upgrade to Windows 10

The first way is to update the Windows system. This method requires minimal effort and knowledge, but a little more time than using other options.

First, check if automatic updates are enabled on your PC. If Windows doesn't offer update options, it's probably disabled. Check your settings and enable the installation of updates if they are indeed disabled. Wait for the Windows icon to appear. After the icon appears, click on it, and then select free update reservation. When making a reservation, you will be asked to indicate your email address, where you will receive a notification that your PC is ready. We send confirmation.

Then a new window will pop up on the screen with a message that all necessary actions have been completed and you need to wait. Your work is now complete. As soon as the OS is ready for updates, you will receive a notification. This may take several days.

Once the preparation is complete, a message will appear indicating that the free update is ready and awaiting installation. Click message. After that:

  1. In the window that opens, click the “Continue” button;
  2. We accept the license agreement;
  3. We are waiting for the system boot process to begin;
  4. We agree to the installation;
  5. We carry out further steps, which will be the same for all methods of updating Windows (they will be described with a general algorithm at the end of the article).

Updating the OS using the Windows 10 Installation Media Creation Tool

This method does not require waiting and preparation for updates. Installing updates is much faster.

So, first, on the official Windows website, download the utility we need, indicating the OS version installed on your PC. Now:

  1. Launch the Media Creation Tool file;
  2. In the window that opens, select the option to update your computer now;
  3. We are waiting for downloading and media creation.

After this, the process of updating the OS to Windows 10 will begin. Further steps will be described below.

Updating the OS using a Windows 10 ISO image

The advantage of this method is that there are no waiting times for downloading and uploading installation files.

So, download the ISO image, unpack the archive and run the Setup.exe installation file.

Installing updates

Upon completion of preliminary preparation using one of the three methods we have proposed, we use the general algorithm of actions:

All you have to do is wait a few minutes and get the finished result of the updates.

How to return updates to Windows 10? It happens that the computer itself performed an automatic update to Windows 10. In this case, everything happens automatically.

Some users are so used to Windows 7 and 8.1 that they don't want to change them. If the system updated itself, we will help you fix it.

My computer has been updated, how can I return it?

This can be done during the trial period with the new version of Windows, which lasts 30 days. A system rollback is performed as follows:

  1. "Start" button, select "Settings";
  2. "Settings" - select the update and security item;
  3. "Recovery" - "Return to Windows 7/8.1" - "Start".

A few minutes of process, reboot the computer and Windows 7 or 8.1 will be returned!

Starting July 29, Microsoft is gradually updating users' PCs to Windows 10, which means some are still in the process of waiting their turn to receive their free upgrade. But you don't actually have to be patient and wait your turn like we did. You can upgrade to Windows 10 yourself right now, without waiting for the update to automatically download and install.

How? It's very simple - you can get Windows 10 immediately using the Media Creation Tool, which you can download from the official Microsoft website. This is a completely legal and legal way to upgrade to Windows 10 manually. The process will take very little time, and it will work regardless of whether you have backed up Windows 10 before or not.

Reminder: Only Windows 7 and 8/8.1 users with valid license keys will be able to get a free copy of Windows 10. All other Windows users (including pirated versions of Windows 7, 8 and 8.1) will be required to obtain an activation key. And for XP and Vista users, there is no option to upgrade to Windows 10; instead, they need to perform a clean installation.

In this article we will look at how to upgrade from Windows 7, 8/8.1 to Windows 10 without waiting your turn - right now.

Step One: Backup

As with any other operating system upgrade, you should take care to back up your files and data (during the upgrade process, you can keep your files and data as is, this is described in the third step, but in addition to this, we recommend that you manually backup some most important files).

Overall, a backup is a good experience, and it's especially important if something goes wrong during the manual update process. In addition, you may decide to go back to the previous OS if you don’t like Windows 10, and you may find that your system is not exactly the same as it was before.

(At the time of writing this article, from reviews of the reverse transition to Windows 7 or 8/8.1, we can say that the results of the reverse transition to the previous OS will not be ideal: files and data may be lost and additional actions will be required, such as deleting unnecessary things, reinstalling programs, etc.).

Step Two: Download Media Creation Tool

Now that you're covered and ready to upgrade, head to the Windows 10 Download page and download the Media Creation Tool 32-bit or 64-bit.

Don't know which version to choose? Select the 64-bit version if you are already using a 64-bit Windows 7 or 8/8.1 operating system. Accordingly, the 32-bit version if you already have 32-bit Windows 7 or 8/8.1. You can find this out from the properties of your system (right click on the icon My Computer > Properties.)

Step Three: Launch Media Creation Tool

Launch the Media Creation Tool and select "Update this PC now" to begin the upgrade process.

The Windows 10 download process will begin. After this, you must accept the license agreement and select what you want to keep during the upgrade. By default, you are prompted to install Windows 10 while keeping your personal files and apps. Media Creation Tool will show you a confirmation of the settings you have chosen, if everything is correct click “Install”.

If you want, you can change the saving options by clicking on “Change components selected for saving.”

The Windows 10 installation (update) process will begin, which will last from 15 to 30 minutes.

Step Four: Finish Installation

Once the update is complete, you can verify that your copy of Windows 10 has been activated: Start > Settings > Update & Security > Activation.

If you find out that you don't like Windows 10, you can roll back to your previous operating system (although keep in mind that the results of the rollback, as mentioned above, according to user reviews, are not always ideal, and may bring problems).

To do a rollback, go to: Start > Settings > Update & Security > Recovery and select the middle option (for example, “Return to Windows 8.1”). This option is only available for 30 days after upgrading to Windows 10, so make sure your decision to downgrade to your previous OS doesn't take too long.

Were you able to upgrade to Windows 10? Or are you having problems? Let us know in the comments.

An update for Windows 10 called October 2018 Update has been released. Many doubted that it would happen at all on October 2nd, even me, but nevertheless, it happened. If I'm not mistaken, the build wasn't even in the Release Preview branch, but the release took place. Correct me if this is not true.

However, the update is already available and today I will tell you how to officially update to the October update. Yes, this is another update guide.

So, the first and fastest way is to update via Windows Update. So go to the Settings application -> Update & Security -> Windows Update and click on the Check for updates button. If the result is positive, then there will be a notification about build 1809. Although the system should eventually find and install it itself.

But it happens that the update is simply not found. This is most likely due to the fact that Microsoft's servers are currently heavily loaded, so the update will not be available to you yet, or some internal error prevents you from updating. Then you can use other methods.

So, go to the Microsoft website using this link and download the Update Assistant tool by clicking on the “Update Now” button. After that, the Windows 10 Upgrade application will download, which will allow you to upgrade to version 1809.

You can also download the Media Creation Tool utility on the same website, which will not only allow you to update to the October 2018 Update, but will also allow you to get the official ISO image of the update and immediately burn it to a flash drive if you select the “Create installation media” menu item. Everything is very simple.

You can also mark the update using the Windows Insider program. That is, in order to update, you will need to become an insider and then exit this program. The method is not bad, but for most it will definitely not be in demand, especially since the applications above solve all your problems.
